How can we rewild the historic city of Venice? Sous les Pavés a slogan from the French riots in 1968, meaning “under the pavement”. The projects aim to reclaim, rewild and regenerate public green spaces in Venice. Over time, Venice has transformed into a man-made landscape composed of large islands separated by waterways. Green spaces are rare, and most of them are private. This scarcity results in a lack of variety in public spaces, limited areas for cooling down, lack of infrastructure to absorb water, and a decrease in biodiversity. The venetian lagoon being largest wetland in the Mediterranean Basin its crucial to be reclaim and rewild areas. This projects rewilds an old monastery courtyard, serving as a catalyst and pilot for transforming this common typology.
